Significant potential for scaling up WaterSHED’s WASH Loans

Download the study

A Study on the Experiences of Existing MFI Models Financing Sanitation in Rural Cambodia, commissioned under the Cambodian Rural Sanitation & Hygiene Improvement Program (CR-SHIP) by the Ministry of Rural Development, investigated sanitation microfinance models that have been implemented in rural Cambodia. The overall objectives were to:

    • evaluate how microfinance institutions (MFIs) support access to sanitation,
    • assess different MFI sanitation models, and
    • recommend best practices for scaling up MFI sanitation financing.

By design, WaterSHED’s WASH Loans implementation offers no direct subsidies and has no dedicated staff or operations budget. WaterSHED simply aims to facilitate sustainable relationships between toilet suppliers and MFIs.
